Dr. Yaron Brook

The pressure on companies is constantly increasing. Some will say that this makes the companies better citizens, others claim that these burdens are detrimental to the success of companies. In a time of increased corporate governance, how should companies deal with social responsibility, environment, executive pay and others. Do the companies play a role in this? Are companies in a position to ignore these evolutions? Or should they only focus on maximizing shareholder value? This show will provide you with different perspectives. Dr. Brook is president of the Ayn Rand Institute and believes that the ideal political-economic system is laissez-faire capitalism, and that there should be a complete separation of state and economics. Mr. Murphy believes that unbridled capitalism neglects the importance of our limited capacity of our natural resources for which we would all pay the price if left unattended. Listen to this show for an honest and open discussion on these different perspectives.
LISTEN: SEGMENT ONE
Yaron Brook and Pat Murphy talk about their respective world views as they discuss the need for Corporate Social Responsibility. Should companies have a role in this or should they be solely focused on creating shareholder value?
LISTEN: SEGMENT TWO
How should corporations interact with the environment? Should they use it to the fullest extent in order to maximize the shareholder value? What are some solutions for companies to be more responsible for the environment? Is the fact that US produced 27% of CO2 with only 5% of the total population a good thing or not? Does climate change really exist? Is there a climate tipping point? These questions are discussed by both Yaron and Pat.
LISTEN: SEGMENT THREE
What is the companies role in becoming more environment friendly? Is there a moral obligation for companies to step up to their responsibility? One of the alternatives Pat offered is the retrofitting of buildings to make them greener. Is this a viable option, or will this take too much out of the economy and affect our standard of living?
LISTEN: SEGMENT FOUR
Should the government play a role in this debate? Should they fund and regulate how companies interact with environment? Can government involvement instill innovation in this area? Yaron and Pat discuss their views on the fact that CEO pay is out of control or not? Is there an increasing income spread, and is that affecting our way of life?
